Gold plated:

According to French and European legislation, only a plated jewel with at least 3 microns of gold thickness is an authentic gold-plated jewel. The lifespan of a 3 micron gold-plated jewel varies between 5 and 10 years if it is well maintained.

Gold filled:

Gold filled products are created by mechanically bonding a layer of gold to a layer of metal.
This is the thickest form of gilding. A gold-filled piece of jewelry can last up to 30 years.
